One of the Reasons You Have Nothing to Wear

A lot of my clients have the same problem: a closet full of clothes and nothing to wear. What I have noticed while working with them is one common issue: they don’t have a strong base.

I mean, they have a lot of clothes, but most of those pieces were either bought randomly for some reason, or they are very complicated, with patterns or colors that are hard to mix together. They don’t have simple pieces that would work like a white canvas, pieces you can build different outfits on.

This is exactly what happens when you don’t know what suits you and which pieces emphasize your beauty and your personality. When you don’t know your body, you go shopping, see exactly the same blouse, or whatever it is, that you already have in your closet, and you buy it.

You know why? Because it feels safe. Your brain chooses something similar to what you already have because it feels familiar and safe. You may like it in the fitting room, but when you come home, the same piece doesn’t look as pretty as it did in the store. And then you have the same problem: nothing to wear, because you can’t even create two outfits with that blouse.

So, next time you go shopping, don’t just buy whatever you like, and don’t shop impulsively. If you like something, take it to the fitting room, try it on, record a video, and then go have a cup of coffee at a coffee shop.

Then watch your fitting room video. You’ll be surprised how different the piece looks on video than it does in the mirror.

Ask yourself: Do I really like it? Can I create at least three outfits with what I already own?

If the answer is yes, buy it. If you’re hesitating, don’t waste your money.
